The Roseburg High School gymnasium was the first of five seismic retrofit projects completed for Roseburg Public Schools by ZCS. Close collaboration between ZCS engineers and the contractor was crucial to accomplish this complicated grant-funded seismic rehabilitation. The retrofit included the removal and replacement of failing bowstring trusses and timber roof. Removing the roof left the tall, slender concrete perimeter walls unbraced and necessitated complex construction techniques and sequencing to safely execute the installation of the new roof without jeopardizing the safety of the students and faculty. Due to the extensive nature of the seismic rehabilitation, incidental upgrades included the refinish and striping of the basketball court and installation of new HVAC and lighting systems.
