The new Medical Office Building in Klamath Falls is a steel framed structure with slab on metal deck floor systems. ConXtech’s proprietary moment frame system was used for the steel superstructure, which allowed for an expedited steel erection schedule. The building houses medical offices, exam and procedure rooms, and imaging equipment. The location of the building on a steep slope offered the opportunity for a daylight basement which will be used as a teaching space to support the collaboration between the SLMC and OHSU.
The sloping site and close proximity to adjacent buildings presented challenges for both our civil and structural teams. The use of a soldier pile shoring wall along the south side of the building allowed for excavating within just 10 feet of the adjacent building. Because the new building was located between an existing multi-level parking garage and clinic building with varying finish floor elevations, the grading and stormwater drainage were very important. We were able to use creative drainage techniques to ensure stormwater was captured and discharged appropriately. The use of sidewalks and ramps ensured all buildings flow well together and are ADA accessible.
